The Little Big Year-Week 44: Off to the islands ‘Mon

Last week, we quite impulsively jumped in a rental car and drove 2600 miles round trip to south Texas to pick up 34 new species. It just so happens, that there were some pretty decent priced flights out of Tucson, so Jeanne booked a couple of tickets, and then had to beat it back home from Texas. This is the local Red Legged Thrush.

Birding and Safari-ing South Africa with the ABA

The small group was a good counterpart to the large, convivial ABA Safari group of 98 birders. That’s a lot, and the organizers of the safari did an excellent job of creating an environment that offered small group birding during the day and a birders party every night. I am a birder, after all. And, there were birds.

The Little Big Year – Week 43: Last minute trip to Texas

Well, that’s just not really our style, so at the very last minute, we rented a high gas mileage car, thru a few things in a cooler, and our birding gear and headed for south Texas. We left Tucson on Monday, and drove to Alpine, Texas for our first night. That lovely little owl represented bird number 34 for the run thru Texas!
