It is also restricted as a breeder to the north of North Island. We soon were close to the Mokohinau Islands , one of the many islands in the area that serve as wildlife refuges. One birder from Australia even got his lifer Red-crowned Parakeet ! The Grey-faced Petrel has all dark plumage with a lighter area around the face.
