I saw two Pitta species at Hongbenghe, both among the slightly less glamourous among the pitta family: The Blue-naped Pitta … … and the closely related Rusty-naped Pitta. The White-rumped Shama is a South Asia species – consequently, the HBW mostly discusses its introduced population in Hawaii.

Another great birding adventure book is The Jewel Hunter by Chris Gooddie (Princeton Univ. And, he did, trekking to remote areas of Asia, Africa, and Australia, often on his own, always on the lookout for a good beer. I think of The Jewel Hunter often when I travel to foreign countries, wishing I could do it like Goodie did.
