I’ve recently returned from a filming trip in Arizona where I have been working on a production for National Geographic on Harris’s (Harris) Hawks. Dirt hawking is a form of falconry that involves hunting rabbits and other small game with Harris Hawks (other hawk species also qualify). My reasons for this are as follows: 1.

They reside there at the top of a small mountain sanctuary as mythical as my first remembrances of ancient thunderbirds, living, mating, and raising young. Their hallmark: They don’t kill. My first view of them was at a distance. Condors, like all New World vultures, can disturb the human psyche. And they continue to ingest lead.
