Scientists at Eindhoven University in the Netherlands have grown in-vitro meat, using cells from a live pig to replicate growth in a petri dish. It could mean not only an end to killing animals for food, but also significantly aid the fight against climate change. Nevertheless there's potential here for two giant breakthroughs.

Dutch May Ban Kosher Slaughter of Livestock

This could halt production of kosher and halal meat in the Netherlands – and lead to similar campaigns in other European countries. However, Jewish and Islamic groups which can prove animals do not suffer more during ritual killing than in an ordinary slaughterhouse will be able to apply for permits.
