First of all, it's gross (find your own planet to dump your trash on), but it's also dangerous for animals. Marine life. One of the worst pictures I've ever seen is of a seal with its stomach cut open and a mess of plastic inside. Here's a short opinion piece on plastics and marine life.

The animal protection group Seal Sitters says a necropsy showed that the sea lion had suffered a shark bite and had twisted intestines in addition to a bullet wound. KING says one of the Nisqually casualties was a Steller sea lion, protected under the Endangered Species Act.
