An Amazing Boat Ride from Santa Cruz Island to Ventura Harbor

The ride from Prisoner’s Harbor, where we had spent our day, to Scorpion Anchorage, was uneventful, though Desi did fall asleep and I did enjoy pretty good views of breeding-plumaged Pigeon Guillemots. Sooty Shearwaters and a Western Gull fly back the aftermath of a Humpback Whale breaching. Humpback Whale Megaptera novaeangliae.

Hey, What About the Great Auk?

That’s one reason, probably the biggest reason, why we don’t have centennials for animals that become extinct in the wild. And we did , for the Peregrine Falcon and Osprey , the Brown Pelican and Bald Eagle. Turns out, from what I could find, not particularly ceremonious. We could do it! Then the 80s happened.
