Doesn't have a ring to it at all, but a young man at Whole Foods yesterday called himself an "animal person" while ordering a roast beef wrap and I thought: Note to self-must change blog name if going to resume blogging. Hal Herzog writes about how many people who say they are vegetarians will also say they ate meat within the last 24 hours.

He always refers to himself and his wife and his child as "vegetarian." Yet he spends time describing the miserable deaths of day-old male chicks and understands what happens in dairy production, and I assume he doesn't partake of anyone's eggs or milk. But why does he say "vegetarian?"

Or bake some vegan cookies for a vegetarian friend who's convinced that she cannot survive without eggs and butter. I'm not saying give up on "animal rights," either. Or educate my neighbors about the alternatives to poker at the dog track (and of course, about dog racing).
