It was Los Angeles, after all, where mileage has no bearing on time, but where time was precious for my little rescue on this crystal morning. That was my first trip to California Wildlife Center. They pointed out the puncture wounds, likely infected with bacteria that could quickly kill. I scrambled for a box. I was mortified.
