Start with easier pets – Many people don’t want to start with the responsibility of a dog or cat. Purebred or mixed breed? It is not necessary to pick a purebred dog for your first pet. I strongly encourage people to adopt pound and shelter animals. Having a cat helps draw the child out in a non-threatening way.
