Before I moved north to Portland, I lived in San Francisco. When I was a new birder, I adopted Pillar Point Harbor near Half Moon Bay as a “patch.”. Off the coast of northern California, Sooty Shearwater are common and are seen on virtually all pelagic birding trips. There is satisfaction in the everyday.
