The authors trace the creation of swamps, wetlands, and meadows by farmers, and then the destruction of wetlands by the building of golf courses, the loss of meadows by the construction of train tracks. It’s a very mixed chapter. Remove Phragmites and replace it with cattails. Mow grasslands only once a year to arrest succession.
