What the rings reveal

I discovered that it had been ringed on 26 September 2016 at Iken, on the River Alde on the Suffolk coast, so almost exactly four years before my sighting. Only when I downloaded my images did I spot the ring, which was clear and easy to read (2BAT). The information I received didn’t indicate the age of the bird.

How Many Birders Are There, Really? (Updated)

The most recent report was issued in December 2019 and it used data from the 2016 National Survey of Fishing, Hunting, and Wildlife-Associated Recreation. In 2016, the ABA was starting an ambitious recruiting drive, to expand its membership from about 12,000. If 1 in 100 birders was a member of the ABA, that would pencil out to 1.2

Birds of Central America: A Field Guide Review

I’m hoping the authors and Princeton University will add a corrected page to their website that users can download, or, even better, add an errata page to all books currently being sold (I know that’s an expensive proposition). Some features to consider: Birds of Central America is a big book. The older field guides don’t.
