Whales emerge from within the larger group of mammals that includes cattle, deer, pigs, camels, with camels being the most deeply rooted. (So So pigs are camels, as you probably already suspected.) Birds have a number of features that distinguish them from, say, camels. Nor do camels. But birds are dinosaurs.
