In Cyprus it also means that the hunters and trappers are active again. If you’re a birder though, you had better have a police escort as some of my birder friends had to last week, while they went as part of an Important Bird Area data gathering group. There are also hunters in Cyprus, which are an entirely different situation.

I was in contact with a group of birders for whom I arranged and guided an annual tour to Africa. We actually spent considerable time searching unsuccessfully for this highly sought-after bird; however I did suspect they were not gone, as several hunters I interviewed knew the bird and claimed it still existed.
