Another lovely red skittle that I had the privilege of spotting on my first visit to Guyana in 2008 is the aptly-named Blood-colored Woodpecker found in the coastal areas in and around Georgetown. Guyana is probably most famous in birding circles for the unlikely discovery of a population of critically endangered Red Siskins in early 2000.
