I recently heard from Chris Kirkby, the Managing Director and Principal Investigator at Asociacion Fauna Forever , a Peruvian not-for-profit organisation based in Lima and Puerto Maldonado, about a series of bird-banding workshops being held this June and November in the rainforests of Tambopata in south-eastern Peru. Wicked, right?

The accounts aim for specificity and authority; dates and locations of rarity sightings are given, and research articles on nesting and behavior are cited. How could I, the librarian, end up with an outdated field guide?

All of this leads to a longer life list, which is, after all, the entire point of bridwatching, right? Way back when I started what turned out to be my thesis research (on humans), it became important for me to learn about bird migration. Some of the research being done then (the 1980s) was pretty naive and sometimes downright silly.
