The kind of place that will be completely uninhabitable for birds in about 5 years, if Vietnam continues developing and if my usual pessimism is justified. 45 of these bulbuls were unlucky enough to be dissected for an analysis of their stomach content, resulting in a paper for the Journal Of Oil Palm Research.

Birding Hongbenghe, Yunnan (Part 2)

One proposed explanation by the researchers for this phenomenon is that similar-looking birds reduce their risk of predation, as predators find it more difficult to focus on and isolate a single target. Interested in doing research on the Orange-bellied Leafbird ? melliana but might represent an undescribed subspecies.

Birding Nonggang, Guangxi, China – part 1

Nonggang is a rural place in Guangxi with a nice landscape somewhat reminiscent of coastal Northern Vietnam (well, it is not too far away). It is listed as Vulnerable, as its range is rather restricted, though it has been found outside of China as well, e.g., in Vietnam, though the HBW does not seem to have read that paper yet.
