We have a request, and it's an issue I've written about a handful of times but never had this particular question answered by readers: How do you talk with your vet--who is against feeding your dog vegan food--about your choice to do so? Violet the diabetic greyhound does very well as a vegan as her recent blood work demonstrated.

The vet did give me a hard time about the dogs' animal-free diets (my traditional vets don't, ironically), and my response was that unless she could show me some research that his particular type of injury needs animal protein to heal, I wasn't going to change anything. I alerted my regular (non-specialist) vet of this and though he didn't treat me like a crazy person, he didn't do any research, either. Last night, my vet called to update me.
