Raised in and around the West Texas steppe country where temperatures reached 100 degrees with regularity, he began life as the Dust Bowl and Great Depression converged. By the time Cade had finished graduate school at UCLA and received his degree in 1957, he was not only an ornithologist, but a zoologist and respected falconer as well.
