The park was created as much to protect the local communities from marauding elephants with a hatred of dangerous humans and a lack of interest in the differences between nations as it was to protect the elephants. The park did have a pack of African Wild Dogs, or Painted Wolves, the species I had gone to Africa to see.

Temperamentally they resemble a small white skua, and nothing gets their blood boiling so much as the idea that you might stray within a few miles of their breeding territory. Notice the correct Farallon Fashion accentuated by contributions from angry gulls. It’s a hot sunny day. Why wouldn’t you wear wet weather gear and helmets?
