Early starts are the rule when monitoring endagered species in Mkuze Game Reserve, in South Africa, but there’s a particular urgency to this morning’s start. Falakhe is still alive, as is the dominant male in his litter. I was afraid to ask if he was still alive, so I didn’t. I didn’t need to.
