It seems like the answer to most questions/responses to most issues is one of these: Speciesism. We can care about animals and people at the same time; they're not mutually exclusive. If you don't have to enslave, rape, dominate, or kill someone (or have someone else do it for you), why would you? Where do people get that idea?
