We can care about animals and people at the same time; they're not mutually exclusive. If you don't have to enslave, rape, dominate, or kill someone (or have someone else do it for you), why would you? Why choose enslavement, rape, domination and slaughter? Where do people get that idea? Let's just say the ban was meaningful.
