However, the solution they have created, which harkens back to before industrialized agriculture, is simply to still raise animals for their flesh and secretions, and for profit, but to do it the old-fashioned way. I wouldn't do it to a dog, and I shouldn't do it to a chicken/sheep/cow/pig. There's no "compassion" in the process.

He asked whether cows, chickens, sheep and some of the other animals that we eat are usually treated and killed in a humane manner. The meat industry will say yes, of course, all animals are treated and killed humanely. Andrew from Good Honest Dollar had an excellent question. It's a thoughtful question I wish more people would ask.
