The New York Times ' Nicholas D. His passion and compassion for humans is immense, but he appears to have some kind of mental block with nonhuman animals. I suppose speciesism/human exceptionalism is at the heart of the matter. Kristof frustrates me. it's not so bad.

I went back to New York to the areas where I grew up and went to college and graduate school for a five-day weekend. The reason we need to save the gorillas and their habitats (it's a book on gorilla "conservation") is--and this is from memory so there could be more--that gorillas have thumbs, just like humans do.
