Horses could soon be butchered in the U.S. for human consumption after Congress quietly lifted a 5-year-old ban on funding horse meat inspections, and activists say slaughterhouses could be up and running in as little as a month. Mike Beebe has signed into law new animal-cruelty restrictions that make aggravated cruelty to cats, dogs and horses a felony on the first offense. The law, which will take effect 90 days after the Legislature adjourns, makes aggravated animal cruelty on first offense punishable by a fine of up to $10,000 and up to six years in prison.

It amazes me that legislative business is still being conducted in DC these days, what with the US economic sky falling. 6598) is a bill that criminalizes the sale and transportation of horses for slaughter. The bill must be passed by the House and Senate before it can become law. Especially animal business. Lovely quote.

I can get in to an all day argument, the simple fact is bestiality is acceptable in every society and done behind closed doors no matter what laws exist. Are they going to pay any attention to the law? Law enforcement has better tasks than to fry someone for their sexual preference or activity.

They are pioneering legislation in California to make public animal abuse registries. Through its campaign, www.ExposeAnimalAbusers.org , the animal protection organization is promoting model legislation that state legislatures could enact.
