These mergs were joined by a hoard of Northern Shovelers, Mallards, Ring-billed Gulls and one lonely male Hooded Merganser. This is where they are truly effective and amazing hunters. Protection from predators? Their serrated teeth help grasp their prey under the surface to make for an efficient motion.
