New moral vegetarianism, however, rests on moral arguments couched in terms of human welfare. Given the people in the world who are hungry or even starving, we should not eat meat, since in eating meat we are, as it were, wasting grain that could be used to feed the hungry people of the world. Let us take the first assumption.
