For a good portion of the year, it became a numbers game, and my pure enjoyment of the birds for what they are, went away. I don’t really know if it was the relief from the pressure of the numbers game, the beautiful morning hike, Matt’s fresh energy, or finding that amazing warbler, but somewhere in the day, birds became fun again.

Here is one of our pick-a-boo games. Qatar species – 9. It ran right out to greet me, and then ran all around me, checking out the cool smells on my tripod legs. I am sure there was a small amount of Africa, and Scotland still lingering on the rubber pads. eBird Checklists – 237. Australia species – 242.

Well, for us, we went to Doha, Qatar. We gamely hit a bunch of spots, had to completely bail on others, as it was getting close to 50 degrees and that nasty wind just would not let up. After leaving Africa, I was fearing a real let down in my birding. Where do you go from there?
