In the late 80s I was invited by Zeiss to go to Wetzlar in Germany to see the company’s binoculars being manufactured, an invitation that was too good to refuse. These binoculars were made at Leica’s factory in Portugal. I visited the factory a few years ago, and the quality control there is now first class. (I
