I was lucky to visit India several times, but as a keen birder I carried along only a bird book, and even upgraded it to a new edition between the trips. On that first trip, I even saw some of the last 500 (Asiatic) Lions ! I clearly needed a mammal book. It also covers Andaman, Nicobar and Laccadive islands. Highly recommended.
