The books work best when the birding is coupled with the human element. On the other hand, Phoebe Snetsinger’s memoir, Birding on Borrowed Time , becomes tedious because of her lack of emotional disclosure. This is the birding adventure book supreme. The Jewel Hunter can be frustrating in this respect.
