Bea sent me a link to an article in Gourmet called " Humane Slaughterhouses ," by Rebecca Marx, that is absurd. They believe you can take a life that doesn't want to be taken in a humane way, and I don't agree. The voice of Temple Grandin is of course the foundation. It’s how we treat humans, too.

So, even if animals are killed painlessly and raised for food in humane ways, it is wrong to kill them. The question is, of course, whether animals do have a right to life. It is also probable that very subnormal adult human beings do not. In particular, it has been argued that animals have a right to life.

Prima Facie vs. Ultima Facie Wrongness

He clearly thinks that it is wrong to cause animals to suffer unnecessarily, but he appears to be somewhat ambivalent about killing animals (provided the killing is carried out humanely). Of course, when hamburgers aren't at stake, most of us think that it would be morally wrong to kill an animal for no good reason.
