On "EATING ANIMALS" by Jonathan Safran Foer

He always refers to himself and his wife and his child as "vegetarian." But why does he say "vegetarian?" That bothers me, as there's a significant difference in motivation for vegans and vegetarians and he sounds like one, yet calls himself the other. He is against it for himself and his family.

A decision not to eat dogs has nothing to do with our inherent hypocrisy, but with our relationship to different animals. Dogs were bred to be companion animals; pigs and cows are raised as food. The fury this meal caused my friends and family back in America motivated me to examine whether eating any animal was justified.
