You know the captain’s name already: the Ross’s Gull was named after Ross who collected the type specimen in 1823 on Melville Peninsula in the Canadian Arctic. Curiously, in 1831, McCormick was appointed a surgeon on HMS Beagle under the command of Captain FitzRoy and he expected to put together a sizeable natural history collection.

Washington Town to Become Horse Slaughter Capital?

The story, by author and animal rights activist Ernest Dempsey calls Stanwood, Washington “Death Row for horses” because of the location not far away of a “major buying station, collection point and feedlot for U.S. horses destined to die and be butchered in one of Canada’s equine slaughterhouses for human consumption abroad.”

One of the most interesting aspects of watching birds in Africa is to see different members of bird families that I already know from China. So, if I saw this Brown Scrub-Robin in China, I would probably quite easily mistake it for a Forest Wagtail. Due to a misunderstanding, this species is currently banned in Russia ( Swift Tern ).

Red and yellow are the colors symbolizing several different things – for example, McDonald’s, the People’s Republic of China, Mastercard, and Kodac. Or maybe there was just more need to collect food, but I like the first explanation better. With regard to their music taste, the research results were inconclusive.
