The books work best when the birding is coupled with the human element. There is a surprising amount of suspense incorporated in the tale, reaching its apex when Gooddie flies to Sabah, East Malaysia with three old friends to find the “mythical” Giant Pitta. There go my plans for a 10,000 Birds write-in campaign.
