Every day, some people switch from meat-based diets to vegetarian diets. Consider, e.g., the traditional low animal-protein diets in rural China and the vegetarian diets of 15 million Jains.) At the same time, try a vegetarian diet for a month. While by no means optimistic, I'm certainly less pessimistic than Ausubel.

In my opinion, and I am a vegetarian, the second definition of humane is the MINIMAL that we should expect. And if you ever drive around an egg farm, hog farm, slaughterhouse, feeding lot, etc., Livestock don’t contribute to campaigns, but agribusiness does. In other words, the proverbial happy farm animal.

Most interesting for me was the mental lock most people have that we vegans are always looking to break or find the key to: Why do good people who understand what happens to animals for unnecessary products such as “steak” or eggs, continue to consume such things? The campaign to moralize meat has largely been a failure. All day long.
