The breeding program has been a great success. A giraffe’s gestation period is 15 months, and the mother and baby will be kept out of view for the first three months so they can be watched closely. That’s a big baby! Both mother and baby will join the other animals on the Serengeti Plain in about three months.

A giraffe’s gestation period is approximately 15 months, and the new baby will nurse for about one year. These births are part of a successful long-term breeding program at Busch Gardens. The duo will join the other animals on the Serengeti Plain in a few months. The term “reticulated” refers to the giraffe’s net-like pattern of spots.
