Another 170 are in captivity, many of them breeding stock for reintroduction efforts. Eventually, I found the lone whooping crane present at the refuge by its call. In the only state in the Central Flyway that protects cranes from hunting. Or is the mandate to protect the welfare and habitat of our state’s wildlife?&#
