They can say that the puppy was needing to be re-homed, therefore it's like adopting from a rescue group. But I didn't campaign for a presidential greyhound for exactly the same reason Obama's decision was disappointing: it glorifies pure breed dogs.

We’ve been educating, helping and begging people to spay and neuter their animals for years, but three million to four million cats and dogs still die in shelters every year because of simple math: too many animals, not enough worthy adoptive homes. Given the current dire shortage of homes, no breeding is responsible.
