Many years ago I interviewed Barbara Young, then the newly recruited chief executive of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB), for an article for The Daily Telegraph. These binoculars were made at Leica’s factory in Portugal. She told me that when she accepted the job, she was advised to get a pair of binoculars.
