Vegan vegetarians who eat only vegetables, fruit, and nuts do not completely remove all microorganisms from their food, even with repeated cleaning. If someone’s sole reason for abstaining from meat were pain-avoidance, then there would be no reason not to eat these cows. Martin has imagined not human vegetables, but cow vegetables!
