No frog, toad, or salamander ever was our forebear. Today's nonhuman apes don't represent earlier stages in human development. Our common-ape like ancestor lived about 15 million years ago. I understand the logic of that last one, but I also appreciate the intention of many activists to have great apes be a gateway of sorts.
