Week 16: South Africa and Kruger National Park

The house is a four bedroom, four bath two story, with a deck running around three sides of the upper story, great for wildlife viewing. So far we have seen Impala, Duiker, Greater Kudu, Mongoose, Zebra and warthogs around the neighborhood, and yard. This will act as our base for the next 20 days.

Nowhere else in Africa do the preconceived ideas of the continent really exist in such living detail; tall, red-robed Maasai herding their skinny cattle, endless grasslands studded with flat-topped Acacia trees and grazed by herds of zebras and wildebeest, and dramatic volcanic calderas brimming with big game and fierce predators!

Great wildlife preserves, reserves and parks exist for a number of reasons. I never get bored of Giraffes. After the day of animals, a drink as the sun sets. The park also has Cheetahs and Painted Wolves (and while I didn’t see the later, they are fairly reliable). Springbok were one of my targets, and I got them!
