I’ve tackled Texas, collected in California, fooled around in Florida. We quickly came upon a pair of Gray Jays, a lifer, hopping through the technicolor birches and I set up to try to take a few photos when my companion yelled out, “BEAR!” Because that’s what animals do in Alaska.

A Birder’s Guide To…INDOCTRINATION

As you read this, I am riding my trusty Grizzly Bear through the backcountry of Yellowstone National Park, helping my colleague Seagull Steve find some new birds. Birding by bear is by far the best way to view the park, although it seems to terrify the hoofed animals. How is your August progressing?
