While plenty of people pay attention to the question of what it means to raise an animal humanely, far fewer stop to consider the notion—and the ostensible paradox—of humane slaughter." Potent if symbolic? Not eating them.

So here is an even more modest proposal than roasting Fido: Try eating only what animals you are willing to kill with your own hands.
