The animals were still bred and raised for slaughter, but evidently in some kind of soulful way we don't really hear about. Essentially, industrialized farming=soulless, small family farm=soulful.

The idea of family is currently being used by the dairy industry in a series of commercials with the tag line: "99% of dairy farms are family owned." Yes, factory farms are the stuff of nightmares for nonhuman animals. I'm not one of those people who thinks family is composed of only humans or humans who are biologically related.

I was thinking about the Poplar Spring Animal Sanctuary calendar of rescued animals photographed by Deb Durant that's on my refrigerator. It's on the refrigerator, but when you open the refrigerator door you'll see nothing that came from the animals in the calendar. People flock to photos and calendars on refrigerators.

The concept of creating when you can adopt is the same with people and animals, yes, but desiring and creating an animal as a pet isn't exactly the same when you unpack it all. question is important when it comes to adopting special needs animals, like Violet Rays, our rescue greyhound.
