Another 170 are in captivity, many of them breeding stock for reintroduction efforts. Ask the proposing states to follow Nebraska’s example, to let them, and their big, desperately imperiled white cousins, alone. But I do think this issue of hunting sandhill cranes goes beyond the right to hunt.
