Rather than eating dogs, we all ought to eat exclusively small-farmed, free-range meat. The fury this meal caused my friends and family back in America motivated me to examine whether eating any animal was justified. In the name of moral consistency I became a vegetarian four years ago.

I served on the Pew Commission on Industrial Farm Animal Production, which released a report in 2008 that detailed exactly how much these “efficiencies” are costing America. The idea that eggs from free-range chickens are somehow morally superior to other eggs is, frankly, weird.
